AECOM REPORT: RINNAI PROVEN TO REDUCE COSTS ON INITIAL PURCHASE AND LIFE CYCLE EFFICIENCIES

A new and independent report from AECOM, the biggest global building services consultancy, has shown that Rinnai hot water heating products and systems reduce operational and capital costs when compared with other types of hot water heating systems.

The findings validate and consolidate Rinnai claims that the company supplies the most energy efficient A-rated range of water heaters for inclusion in sustainable total water heating systems on the market today with life cycle costs estimated to be 7% less over 20 years* than the base case example, which included storage.

AECOM conducted study tests in a ‘real-life’ situation in two student accommodation blocks using a base case against which it compared five different options (see Appendix A, below). (Use Appendix A -  capital cost tables)

In the new tests, Task 1 looked at hot water systems for two larger installations with an electric heating system with storage included in the comparison. 


 

Task 2 looked at how the hot water system affects the overall heating system costs and operational energy and carbon performance. 


 

The report is based on two student accommodation blocks that share a set of gas boilers providing both space heating and domestic hot water (DHW). The main objective of the report was to compare the baseline system against alternatives such as continuous flow water heaters and air source heat pumps.
